Jim Kennedy is a league member and former Super Senior Champion for Illinois. He is a master golfer. Following are a few lessons that he offers to us for swing, tempo, and grip.
You'll absolutely love this young ladies swing. There’s three things to watch for:
1. The most important - the drill she’s doing. She places a second ball just behind the club head. When she starts her back swing it’s a low slow easy one piece takeaway and “most important” - she pushes the second ball straight back slowly and only a few feet. This instills a correct straight, low and slow one piece takeaway that sets up the pace for the rest of her swing.
2. Next - Stop the video at the top of her back swing. Her chin at the top of the back swing is behind her shoulder (her head has not moved since her set up and at the top she is looking down her back at the ball) and her back is facing the target. Wish I had that flexibility in my swing. The point here is to make sure you finish your turn on the back swing no matter how flexible you are.
3. Her tempo is out of sight - no rushing at the top and a great follow through always in perfect balance. This all starts with her great takeaway. She claims she’s been using that drill for years, it’s her favorite and I think it’s one of the keys on how she developed such a great swing.
Replay it until you ingrain that low slow one piece takeaway as well as her tempo in your mind as well as your swing. You may not be able to match it but the most important key here is her tempo all starts with that take away. Also you don’t have to hit a ball - you can use this drill with your practice swings at home as long as you have enough room to swing and you have at least one ball to put behind your club not in front of it.
